The present Grand Hotel Viljandi was the town's most elegant building when opened in 1938 and named Esimene Viljandi Esinduslokaal (the First Best Place of Viljandi), shortly EVE. After major renovations the hotel was reopened in May 2002 and continues to provide the luxurious accommodation only EVE can offer. Every detail of the Grand Hotel Viljandi is tastefully designed; use of effective contrasts and colours creates a unique atmosphere of the bygone era grandeur in the hotel. The hotel is located in the very centre of the town. Lake Viljandi and the medieval castle ruins are both at 10-15 minutes walking distance from the hotel.
